Everyone's talking about it...

The Open Source Boobs Project

There are MANY responses: here, here, here, here, here, here, here and here. (yeah, it's made people all rage-y!)

I'm not feeling very eloquent about it, more along the lines of "VOODOO SMASH!" and "DO NOT WANT". It's a way for horny fanboys, mostly, to get their jollies. Even when it's other women doing the asking/touching, as someone says, it's much like the Girls Gone Wild thing, where lesbianism is used as a hetero sex aid for men.

Apparently there were women in the group that originated this "project." Personally, I'd like to smack each and every single person in that group upside the head for this, men and women alike. *sigh* How this could be considered a "very positive thing," I will never understand.

It went beyond proposing - there was actual gropage. Consensual, but with shitloads of peer pressure, cloaking it in "ohhh we can be all UTOPIAN and take the stigma off the boobz!" (while wallowing in getting to touch boobs and see others touch them)

I am really shocked by all the women loving this in the comments. It's just...creepy. In a closed setting, sure, but in semi-public? Not cool. And the whole thing with buttons...choosing not to wear one at all still left you open to being ask. You HAD to wear a red one to not be asked. I don't want to HAVE to wear anything except my con badge. UGH.

rightly or wrongly... as a woman I really don't have an issue with this... I sort of agree with him...

*My* reason is this... what is a breast? It is a feeding device... pure and simple... nothing more nothing less. My breast don't define me as a person. They don't enhance or detract from my intelligence. If others want to give it a bigger meaning than something other that a milk carton well that's there issue... I generally ignore my breasts, they've done nothing for me... it's not like I can get any use out of them!

It's a flabby piece of flesh that is actually rather a pain, you have to get special clothes for them, you have to get them checked every other year, they get in the way when you are doing any number of activities... (Getting a tit caught in a bow string when doing archery is exceptionally painful and if you have an overly ample supply of them you end up inevitably spending money at the chiropractors because they have given you a back ache. The grow when you are pregnant and end up somwhere down around your knees by the time you are in your 60's. To get them looking anything like they were originally you have to spend shit loads of money and go through even more pain.

I also have the same sort of comments on penises as well... it is a bit of human flesh... nothing more nothing less. No different to an arm.

It is society that places a taboo on what is appropriate touching and what is not...

I am NOT however pro unprovoked groping etc... what I am saying is that if someone I knew asked to touch my breast... I wouldn't be that offended.

I sometimes wonder if humanity go the raw end of the deal here... look at the animal kingdom... okay we don't perscribe to them the intellect that humans have... but a male monkey can touch a female monkey without too much fear of the female kicking him in the balls for doing so.

That's just my 2c worth... make of it what you will... I am not looking for indignant responses. I understand the other side of it, and in the wrong context I would be right there with you... I'm just putting another view point out there.

For a lot of women their breasts will never be "a feeding device". Just because I am capable of reproduction in no way means I will do it, and that that is the only reason for me to have breasts.

Oh yuck. The very fact that he sees nothing creepy or demeaning in women coming up to him to ask if their breasts pass inspection, and if they are good enough to be touched by him, is enough to make me vomit. Instead he seems to be using that womans issues with her body as a way to boast of how great the project is at making women feel beautiful about their bodies :/

And I thought the unsubtle leering at my breasts from strangers was bad enough, I would be mortified if anyone asked if they could have a feel! But so long as they ask politely, it's a question they have every right to put to women apparently. Revolting. And I'm fine with them just touching one another, if their female friends offer themselves up for touching first. But whoever got the idea to ask random strangers if they could touch their breasts. NOT OKAY

Man, honestly? The lechery at any con I've been to is HUGE so I'm not really surprised. And the girls in some circumstances are into it. I wouldn't have been surprised if someone had ask me, in the context of any previous con I've attended. I just wouldn't. Now that I think of it, they actually may have. Huh.
I'd say no. If they did it anyway? I'd break their fingers. What sucks? I'm so accustomed to shit like this it's sad that I'm fairly blaise about it.
